FIELD NOTES - Quarterly Editions & Subscription Boxes
The projects above include just a few of the many that Matthew has worked on at Field Notes. His roles in these projects have included design, project management, art direction, package design, overseeing print production, and more.

Four times a year, Field Notes releases a “Quarterly Edition.” Started in 2008 as a way to explore different paper and printing processes, the Quarterly Editions serve as the ever-changing thrust of the Field Notes product line. With a subscription model and a subscriber base of several thousand, the Quarterly Editions allow the Field Notes team to learn about and try wildly different things throughout any given year. This includes not just the production methods, but the themes and concepts as well.

FIELD NOTES - “Trailhead” Edition
Matthew was creative lead on this project, which included design & illustration, copy writing & editing, and project management.

For Summer 2021, Field Notes launched the “Trailhead” edition. Filled with useful information on life in the great outdoors, this set of notebooks features maps on the back of the Appalachian Trail, the Continental Divide Trail, and the Pacific Crest Trail.

“Whether you’re starting at the Canadian border and thru-hiking the 3,100-mile Continental Divide Trail, trekking from Glacier National Park in Montana to the Big Hatchet Mountains of New Mexico, or just taking an evening stroll through a local park, we hope you will find this edition a useful companion.”

FIELD NOTES - 5E Gaming Journals
Matthew served as design lead on this project, which included layout, iconography, art direction, illustration, and more.

Late in 2019, Field Notes was approached by some friends of the company with the idea of creating notebooks for Dungeons & Dragons gameplay. Field Notes brought on Will Hindmarch of GamePlayWright & Level Eater to write help shape and write content for the notebooks.

FIELD NOTES - Customs & Collabs
Matthew oversees design and production of all custom and collaborative jobs at Field Notes.

Field Notes is regularly approached by companies and organizations that want custom notebooks. The books below highlight just a few of the hundreds of notebook designs that Field Notes has produced for clients large and small.

FIELD NOTES - Films
Matthew often finds himself involved in the production of marketing films for various Field Notes products. Most often he is building props, setting up lights, and working with the rest of the team on writing and conceptualizing.

For (nearly) every Field Notes product released, a promotional film is made as the big launch day marketing push. All films are shot and edited by Steve Delahoyde, with additional camera work by Bryan Bedell and creative direction from Jim Coudal.
